Today women across the country are bravely and courageously making their voices heard in speaking out against Brett Kavanaugh. Survivors are telling their truths and reliving the most painful moments of their lives. They are demanding to be heard.

The energy that began with the Women’s march has only grown. It didn’t matter if their sign said, black lives matter, women’s reproductive freedom, LGBTQ equality, or clean air clean water. It just mattered that they were willing to march.

Right now a lot is on the line for women. Health care remains a huge issue. It should be a right and not a privilege, but it’s under attack by President Trump and his nominee to the Supreme Court, Judge Kavanaugh, who will undermine women’s reproductive freedom in the highest court in the land, affecting millions of women’s lives for generations. I am also concerned about equal pay and the persistence of systemic racism. If you are a woman of color, you are doubly discriminated against, facing both gender discrimination and racial discrimination.

"Women need to stand up. They need to be heard, and they need to refuse to give up. Even when the leader of the free world tweets a nasty statement about you."

These issues must be talked about, which is one of the reasons I want more women elected. The great news is that women are running in record numbers. For the House alone, 235 women are major-party nominees. That’s a start. But my goal is to get to 51 percent women in Congress. Women are running because they are concerned about the future. They don’t share Trump’s values about women, about LGBTQ, about clean air, clean water, the future! And they’re willing to take it upon themselves to fix the direction of this country, and that’s inspiring.

Trump continues to attack women. Particularly women of color. I think it’s important to push back, and to respond to his outrageous statements with clarity. When he tweeted a sexist smear about me, it was intended to silence me. It was intended to silence the women who had accused him of sexual violence and sexual harassment. And it was intended to silence the millions of women who marched against him. Women need to stand up. They need to be heard, and they need to refuse to give up. Even when the leader of the free world tweets a nasty statement about you.

The fate of the Supreme Court rests on a handful of senators, whose minds could still be changed before tomorrow's final vote.
